Openfiler Update Command Line
For my Oracle 11gR2 RAC Cluster I wanted to test the Grid Naming Service (GNS). Since I used Openfiler 2.3 for my shared storage devices (ASM), I also wanted to use this system as the DHCP and DNS server. A very good document about using Openfiler for ASM devices is written by Jeffrey Hunter and can be found. This document will describe howto install and configure a DHCP server and DNS server on the Openfiler server. In this setup my I use three networks:. This network (192.168.123.0) is attached to my home network and has access to the internet. To install packages on Openfiler you need a access to the internet. This network (192.168.0.0) is uses for the public network.
The listeners, GNS VIP, SCAN VIP, Node VIP and nodes public interface are using this network. DHCP can be used in this network segment for the Nodes VIP and SCAN VIP. Names for this VIPs are resolved by the GNS.
This network (10.0.0.0) is used for the Oracle private interconnect and for the shared storage (ISCSI). The IP addresses of the private interfaces of the RAC nodes can be assigned dynamically.A Grid Naming Service Configuration Example can be found in the Oracle. Installing packages on an Openfiler serverOpenfiler uses a packages system, called, developed. Take a look at the to learn more about the parameters that can be used with the conary command. It’s important that your Openfiler server has access to the internet to download the extra packages.Installing a new package is as easy as using the following command:# conary update For the DHCP server and DNS server we need the packages dhcp and bind:runtime. Install both packages.
I'm using Openfiler 2.99.1 in VMware Workstation 10 under vmnet-1 (host only) configuration. I faced a bug while creating RAID-1.
Hence, I tried to update openfiler but when I used the command 'conary updateall' in command line, it gave me an error every time, 'error occurred opening repository.temporary failure in name resolution'.Then I tried updating directly from 'update' link in web-administration GUI on web browser, but it ending with showing error, 'error occurred while looking for updates'. I've attached the screenshots of both issues. Please help. Arvinddisha08 wrote:Thanks a lot @Scott Alan Miller Sir.

Actually,I was trying to build a NAS using OF with RAID-1 and LDAP authentication. Can I use FreeNAS or FreeBSD to build a NAS, which one of these will be better to use in a home environment, keep the complexity low at the same time. You can use anything.
FreeBSD is always better than FreeNAS because of the.Other great options are CentOS, openSuse Tumbleweed, openSuse Leap and Ubuntu. For your needs, which are very low, CentOS 7 is by far the simplest and most common. But RAID on top of VirtualBox will not be useful no matter what you are using. But should I use FreeBSD or FreeNAS in VMware Workstation or I've to do bare metal installation.
Because, so far, I've spent more than 6 months on Openfiler installed on VMware and still not being able to access shared folder created, using this configuration. This kind of hectic using this in virtualized environment but Openfiler web administration GUI doesn't works in NAT and Bridged configuration and Shared Folder is unaccessible in VMnet-1Also is there any good guide to use these OS as I'm not aware of these? Sir, I need one more help. Actually, as I installed OF on VMware workstation, I can now access the shared folder from my laptop, the machine on which OF and VMware are actually present. But from other machines, even in the same IP and subnet, I'm not being able to access the shared folder in file explorer. Is there something else I need to do to access it from other machines or is this problem because of the fact that I'm using OF in VMware in VMnet-1(host only) network configuration. Is there anything I can do to make it accessible from other machines.Sorry for inconvenience, Sir.

It's OpenFiler that is the problem. Any server works exactly the same physical or virtual. You should not use FreeNAS as it has extra components that are not necessary and make it harder to maintain. If you are set on a BSD product (why, is your experience heavy on BSD and not on Linux?) then FreeBSD virtualized is the obvious answer.
But never, ever, woudl you run any system on Vmware Workstation. You run on XenServer, KVM, VMware ESXi or Hyper-V. Those are the production hypervisors. VMware Workstation is for testing things on your desktop only. No exceptions. Priyamsachan wrote:Sir, I need one more help.

Default is probably to NAT the device and not expose it to the network. IT's meant for testing, not for how you are trying to use it, hence the problems.
